It wouldn’t be the countdown without a great flashback or a little bit of NASCAR, so with 11 days until graduation I salute two guys, one from the present and one from the not so distant past.
Chesterfield, Va., native James Alan Dennis Hamlin—maybe you just know him as Denny—has been the pilot of the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing car since 2005 at Kansas. Hamlin’s Cup debut came at the track that will host its first of two races this upcoming weekend.
Hamlin jumped into the No. 11 after Jason Leffler stepped out, due to a dismal season in the No. 11. Leffler’s last race was the 2005 Brickyard 400.

The No. 11 FedEx hauler drives down I-74 between Cincinnati and Indianapolis, and for the final time the back door had Jason Leffler's name on it. Shortly after the 2005 Brickyard 400 Leffler was released from Joe Gibbs Racing
And who from Cincinnati wouldn’t like to salute Moeller graduate and former Reds shortstop Barry Larkin, who donned the No. 11 jersey for the Reds from 1986 until 2004. Larkin won the 1995 National League MVP award and was a 12-time All Star.
Not bad for a Cincinnati kid.
I salute these two men, both holders of the No. 11 torch, as I countdown to graduation on June 11th.
The top ten countdown starts tomorrow and tomorrow I bring you the No. 10 moment in my college career. From here on out, very little will have to do with the number of days left, but I will begin to focus on the top ten moments, as defined by myself, in my collegiate (undergraduate) career.
