Brickyard 400 will feature Rascal Flatts singing National Anthem

One of my favorite Brickyard 400 memories is hearing Rascal Flatts perform “The Star Spangled Banner” before the 2004 version of the 400-mile race.

Guess what race fans, they’re back. And I am fired up.

The Indianapolis Motor speedway announced today that the award winning country group will sing the National Anthem and a few other songs on the Yard of Bricks before the Brickyard 400 on July 31st.

Does it get any better than this?

Big Machine Records, who produce Rascal Flatts, amongst other great country soloists and groups, is also sponsoring the race, becoming the first record label in 18 years to sponsor NASCAR’s stop at the famed 2.5-mile oval in Speedway, Ind.

Reba McEntire will perform “America the Beautiful” before Rascal Flatts performs the National Anthem at Indy for the second time in their career. The Band Perry, Justin Moore, Thomas Rhett and Brantley Gilbert will also perform a concert at 9 a.m. on raceday.

In 2004 I climbed into our seats just at the entrance to pit road with my dad and brother. We had never heard of Rascal Flatts. Since then, we’ve become huge fans of the country group, and I look forward to hearing their rendition of the National Anthem…again.

The Brickyard 400 is just 30 days away, and the countdown will begin after the inaugural Quaker State 400 at Kentucky next Saturday evening. More about Kentucky coming later on the blog.
