High praise from Joe Danneman

I’m not one to blow my own horn too often, but last night, I’ll be honest, I couldn’t help it.

I love my “job” as Sports Intern at WXIX, Fox 19 here in Cincinnati. I’ve done so much for the sports department, and the folks working in sports—Sports Director Brian Giesenschlag and anchor/reporter Joe Danneman—absolutely love having me around…even when I’m not around.

I could tell a multitude of stories, but the most recent is a pretty darn good example of why I love helping these guys out, and why they love having me as their intern.

Last night my dad and I sat in our living room and watched the Southern 500. I prepped a post-race story when my mom reminded us that Ohio State was playing the men’s volleyball national title match. We saw the final set (or as I still refer to them as, game) of the match and I reminded both Brian and Joe D that two of the Buckeyes players were graduates of St. Xavier High School.

Needless to say, they both loved me for the info. And after I suggested that I could write up a quick story for the Fox 19 website, Brian told me to go for it. So I did: http://t.co/fZPcjhD

After the race was over I put up a quick post-race story, one of my favorite parts of working for Fox 19. (Here’s my story: http://bit.ly/jKWLgM)

I always tweet my story links so that those who follow me and care enough to read my stuff—including a lot of you NASCAR fans—can check out my work. However, last night I was feeling, well, shall I say, brash, and got smart aleck-y with my tweets.

“Am I the hardest working sports intern in Cincinnati?” I asked.

Joe D responded, “Forget intern, I think you might be the hardest working PERSON in Cincinnati.”

While I do have a few different jobs and I seem to be always busy, I told Joe he was going a little overboard with his praise. “I wouldn't go that far,” I had to say in return. “But I'm having fun while doing it. Anything to help you guys out.”

And the “new guy” on the Fox 19 block responded with the highest praise I’ve gotten in a long-time on Twitter. “Well, it's much appreciated and doesn't go unnoticed. I'm very impressed,” he tweeted.

If you visit the blog you know of my passion for sports—especially NASCAR—and how much I love to get out and work for the guys at Fox 19. Yesterday was just another example of how much I mean to the great guys at Channel 19. And I’m not done helping them out just yet.

By the way, Happy Mother’s Day. While I have no tear-jerking stories or otherwise meaningful things to say, I did have fun golfing with my grandma today, which has become a Mother’s Day tradition in my family. And I’m happy to say my grandmother beat me by a stroke. Looks like I need to spend less time working and more time golfing.

And I’ll have more on Regan Smith’s first official NASCAR win later this week. I hope to ask AJ Allmendinger about Smith’s win and more when Allmendinger visits Kentucky Speedway on Wednesday to talk about promotions for the Quaker State 400 on July 9th. Stay tuned, and thanks for reading.
