Goodyear tire test at Kentucky on Wednesday

Well the day has finally come for the rubber to literally hit the road at Kentucky Speedway. On Wednesday—in less than 24 hours—seven Sprint Cup drivers will give Goodyear feedback on the tire they plan on bringing to Sparta for the inaugural Quaker State 400 on July 9th.

This May 11th photo shows the construction updates going on at Kentucky Speedway where on Wednesday seven drivers will take their cars out onto the track to test tires for Goodyear

The seven drivers participating in tomorrow’s tire test are Greg Biffle, Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Travis Kvapil, David Reutimann and Mark Martin.

The list includes some Kentucky Speedway firsts. Biffle won the inaugural Camping World Truck Series race at Kentucky in June of 2000. Harvick won the inaugural Nationwide Series race in 2001, and Joey Logano has won the past three poles and Nationwide Series races at Kentucky.

Around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday evening Logano tweeted, "Just landed in kentucky, we got a tire test to do tomorrow."

Only Logano and Keselowski have driven at the track in Sparta in the past year.

Logano and Keselowski also have each finished in the top five in every one of their three races at the 1.5-mile oval. Harvick has two Nationwide starts in Kentucky. Kvapil has the most experience of any of the drivers at Kentucky, although his only Nationwide start came in 2001. He’s made five starts in the Camping World Truck Series and has two top fives to show for it. Those starts took place from 2000-2004 and one in 2007.

Three drivers are scheduled to meet with media members (tentatively): Logano, Biffle and Martin.

Three weeks ago A.J. Allmendinger sat in the infield media center at Kentucky and talked about not being too worried about the lack of track time for Cup drivers in their cars before the race.

“I know the place a little bit and like I said, I think we’ll get a ton of track time so that won’t be an issue,” Allmendinger said.

Photos, videos from FOX19 and of course I’ll be tweeting (@adamniemeyer) from Kentucky Speedway for the short time I’ll be allowed to be in there. Check back for more information from the tire test as the week develops.
