Kentucky Speedway to announce race sponsor Sunday

Kentucky Speedway is fired up about their first opportunity to host a Sprint Cup race. But, we’re still confused as to the name of the “Name still TBD” 400 on July 9th.

That is, until now. On Wedensday, Fox19 Sports Director Brian Giesenschlag tweeted that the speedway will announce their sponsor for the inaugural Cup race on Sunday before the race at its sister track in Las Vegas.

Giesenschlag tweeted, “Sprint Cup race at Kentucky has agreed with a title sponsor. Announcement coming Sunday before race in Vegas.”

Last month, speedway General Manager Mark Simendinger told Mark Story of the Lenxington Herald-Leader about the details behind such a big sponsorship.

“You're talking about a seven-figure sponsorship,” Simendinger told Story. “It's a pretty complex deal that takes time to work through all the moving parts on both sides. I am very optimistic we will be having an announcement in the next couple of weeks.”

My best bets are Cincinnati-area companies like Kroger or maybe a Proctor and Gamble product will be on the race. The P&G 400 brought to you by Tide. That kind of has a ring to it.

We’ll find out on Sunday.
