Elder head basketball coach Joe Schoenfeld has been on the Elder bench as the head guy since Elder legend Paul “Hans” Frey retired twenty years ago.
“Hans” Frey has won a school-high 383 games. Now, his mentee has 300.
With a 61-54 win over rival St. Xavier, Schoenfeld got win No. 300. Schoenfeld has tied another Elder legend, J. Walter “Babe” Bartlett for second place on the wins list at Elder.
In twenty years on the Elder bench, Schoenfeld’s Panthers teams have won five GCL Championships, six Sectional Titles, five District Titles, two Regional Championships and one State Championship.
This evening’s game was the final regular season game for Elder, who plays either Hamilton or Colerain on Wed. March 2, in their opening playoff game.
