Happy Birthday Mark Martin

Me and other media members gathered around Mark Martin on Brickyard 400 media day last year (IMS.com photo)

It’s Mark Martin’s 52nd birthday today, so Happy Birthday to the man who has made NASCAR worth following for me and so many other fans across this great nation.

If you look at my 400 plus blog postings since March of 2008, you’ll see plenty of college football, high school sports and of course, NASCAR. Numerous NASCAR postings have to do with Mark Martin, and my thoughts on why he’s my favorite driver of all time.

He’s more than a driver, he’s a role model, a perfect example of how to do things the right way. And, in this world, we need people like Mark Martin to show us the right way to get it done.

Mark Martin is the author of my favorite quote of all time: “Impatience is a real hard thing to deal with and to work with. Impatience is waste of time. It's a diversion. If you're impatient, you're worrying about things you can't control.”

And it’s true. If you worry about things you can’t control, you’ll drive yourself crazy. I’ve learned since that day in October of 2007 not to get caught up in the little things I can’t control, but to work on the things I can.

Happy 52nd birthday to Mark Martin. There’s six weeks left before the green drops at Daytona and in the next six weeks I’m sure I’ll share more than a few Mark Martin stories. Check back for those.
