This has got to be one of the best unofficial holidays of the year. Every year I have the opportunity to promote NASCAR through my celebration of NASCAR Day. Yesterday I had to opportunity to explain why I, along with millions of others, support NASCAR Day to friends who don’t understand.
NASCAR Day was initiated in 2004 to support the NASCAR Foundation. According to their website, “NASCAR Day encourages fans to make a $5 donation for a collectible lapel pin which in turn will support programs that help children live happier, healthier lives.” Most of the money donated to the NASCAR Foundation goes to the Victory Junction Gang Camp and other charities.
Since 2004, the Foundation has raised almost $8 million for charities of all kinds.
Today, drivers and their crew members are preparing for the All-Star events tomorrow, but they’ll also take some time today to raise money for the foundation and celebrate the best sport in America.
Plus, it gives me reason to wake up and tell everyone I know that it’s NASCAR Day. So, to NASCAR fans and everyone else out there, Happy NASCAR Day.
