On May 11th A.J. Allmendinger visited Kentucky Speedway, and said, “I guess if somebody’s got to win the first one, I guess it should be me. I don’t see why not.”
During the Goodyear tire test on June 1st Joey Logano, who has owned the past three Nationwide Series races at the speedway, threw his hat in the ring as well.
“I’m undefeated here, the 21-year-old Middletown, Conn., native said. “I actually won a legends race here when I was 12, so I’m batting a thousand here. I want to keep that going. It’s getting harder and harder though.”
Then came Greg Biffle, who won the inaugural NASCAR Camping World (then Craftsman) Truck Series event at the 1.5-mile track in Sparta. The Roush Fenway Racing driver said he wished for nothing more than to put his name down in the books again as the first winner.

“That would be fun,” Biffle said about winning the inaugural Cup race. “Number one, I love going to new racetracks because nobody has an advantage. The 48 hasn’t raced here a dozen times or Mark or whatever else, so that’s a lot of fun when there’s a level playing field when we all come here the first time or second time.”
Biffle came out in the morning session at that tire test and said his team was spot on with his Ford Fusion. “We hit it on the nailhead right out of the garage,” he said. “We haven’t made a lot of changes and we’re running the same speed as all the guys.”
“I’m pretty proud of the guys for being that close of the truck in a place we haven’t been at in a long time.”
And if history is any telling, Greg Biffle will find his way to the front in the 400-mile inaugural Sprint Cup race at Kentucky.
